Often, an individual’s career doesn’t affect just the person holding the job. Families and even entire communities can be impacted by our work, from how much time we spend with loved ones to the consequences of commuting. That’s one reason finding a job that benefits the whole family can be a great goal in your search for flexible work.
This week, we’re happy to tell our readers about the job search success of FlexJobs member Paul C. from Bainbridge Island, Washington. His search for flexible work began when he became a new working dad—a life-altering event that also shifted his perspective on his career goals.
Using his FlexJobs membership, Paul found a great full-time job that allows some telecommuting—and offers much healthier work-life integration. Paul was hired as a security intelligence advisor for Anitian, an information security company offering cybersecurity services that protect businesses and their data.

New Dad, New Career Perspective
After the birth of his first child, Paul concluded that it was time to make a big shift in his approach to work and career. “We had our first child and decided to change our lives from suburban commute to small town/telecommute,” Paul wrote, responding to questions FlexJobs asks successful job seekers who’ve found great flexible job using our site.
One reason Paul chose to look for greater telecommuting flexibility might have a familiar ring for other job seekers looking to work from home: he was looking to cut back on commuting, or ditch it altogether. “For me personally, the reduction in time spent commuting is the biggest driver,” Paul said.
Flexible Job Helps Make Time for Family
Commuting wasn’t his only concern, Paul wrote. The move from a faster-paced community to a more family-friendly area made sense as he sought to find a balance between work and career that would offer healthier work-life integration.
“It was a choice about our whole family,” Paul said. “Flexible work means more time for making healthful meals, walking my son to school in the morning, and being able to live in a quieter community.”
